Stewardship
Converting the
wallet
Long ago when
a king converted to Christianity and
ordered his knights to be baptized,
many of them held their right arms
out of the water. As they were
immersed, every part of them was
baptized except the hand in which
they held their weapon. When the
crisis came, they could kill without
having to feel constrained by
Christian morality.
I sometimes wonder
whether it would have been easier if
we had held our wallet out of the
water on the day we were baptized.
Then we could justify behaving from
time to time as if all of use belong
to God ... except what belongs to
me!

People often assume that Mother’s Day is
a something promoted by Hallmark to make
you buy their cards. But, in fact, the
tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day is
an old one. The Greeks and the Romans
worshipped the mother of the Gods, and
although one’s mother was not
worshipped, the celebration was a
beginning. The English celebrated
Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday of
lent; this celebration is very similar
to the current Mother’s Day
celebrations. Anna M. Jarvis is credited
with bringing this custom to the United
States in the late 19th or early 20th
century. Today, Mother’s Day is a
celebration of a mother’s unconditional
love, nourishing, and nurturing as well
as her undaunted spirit.
"If our sins had been
little and our needs small, God could have
sent a book. But he sent his own son.
That ought to give us some idea of how big
the problem is."

As it is with many Christian
holidays, Saint Patrick's Day has lost much of its
original meaning. Instead of settling for parades,
cardboard leprechauns, and "the wearing of the
green," we ought to recover our
Christian heritage, celebrate the
great evangelist, and teach our kids about this
Christian hero.
Saint Patrick didn't chase the snakes
out of Ireland, as many believe. Instead, the Lord
used him to bring into Ireland a sturdy faith in the
one true God - and to forever transform the Irish
people.
The
greatest need at this time is for cash.

Speaking of Eternity
Question:
If you could live forever, would you and why?
Answer:
"I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if
we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we
cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever."
